Insufficient water and over watering are the leading causes of new-lawn failure. Take precautions to prevent damage. Minimize play and foot traffic on new and sodded lawns for at least three weeks.

Watering your new sod after it has been installed is very critical. Regular watering is necessary until the root system has become deeply established, usually one full summer, but up to 2 full summers where soil is compacted.

Water your new sod at least twice a day, including once midday. Keep the soil moist to a depth of 1 to 2 inches. Check to make sure that soil does not stay saturated for long periods of time; otherwise the plants may not root. Reduce watering frequency to every second or third day once lawn has begun new root growth (about two weeks). After four weeks, a sodded lawn can survive for longer periods of time without water.

The following is a guide for the first 4 weeks of watering sod laid during a hot weather period (highs in the 80′s or above).

For the initial watering, 1/2″ of water at each watering will soak the sod adequately. In later weeks, as the watering frequency decreases, 1″ should be applied at each watering.

Allow sod to grow 4″-5″ before mowing. Mow no shorter than 3″. Fall fertilizing is recommended for new sod, however, do not fertilize for the first 60 days after is is laid. For sod laid down in fall, fertilize in April.

What is Freshly Brewed Compost Tea?

FRESH compost tea is a brewed compost mixture aerated to bring it alive, it will begin working immediately to feed and balance your plants and soil.

What Can You Use the Tea For?

All plants, gardens, trees and shrub areas that you want to bring life to the soil!

When/How Do You Apply Our Freshly Brewed Compost Tea?

Application: Early Morning or Late Evening Hours to prevent tea from evaporating in the afternoon heat.

Water to Tea Ratio : 1 gallon of compost tea to 1 gallon of water

IMPORTANT NOTE: Set out tap water 12 – 24 hours prior to picking up your tea to allow the chlorine to evaporate. It’s imperative you do so because chlorine will kill the living beneficial microbes in the compost tea.

How do I get it & for how much?

It’s fresh brewed every Saturday morning. Bring a container and get it while supplies last for just $5 a gallon. We recommend you use it immediately for best results.

Countryside Nursery only supplies fresh cut to order high quality sod / turf during the Spring, Summer and Fall. It’s sold by the pallet and each roughly covers about 450 square feet.

Turf is highly perishable. Once cut, it must be planted within 3 days or thrown out. As a result, we fresh cut each order to ensure maximum freshness and consistent quality.

Sod Laying Instructions

1. Till and level the area where sod will be laid
2. Moisten the soil 1 or 2 days in advance of planting
3. Rake the top soil for a final leveling
4. Start laying sod in a straight line ensuring each square is firmly adjacent to the next piece.
5. Once you have completed laying all the sod, use a lawn roller to ensure firm contact between the soil and sod roots.
6. Water the lawn regularly and deeply. Daily for new plantings, less often as the sod matures and begins to establish itself.
7. Do not mow the lawn for at least 3-4 weeks
8. Apply fertilizer during the growing seasons, fall and spring. Newly established sod can benefit from soil activators and root stimulator.
